FBR IRIS is the Federal Board of Revenue's online tax portal at iris.fbr.gov.pk, where taxpayers in Pakistan register, file income tax and sales tax returns, and receive and reply to notices.
What IRIS is
IRIS is the Federal Board of Revenue's online system for income tax and sales tax in Pakistan. Registration, return filing, wealth statements, notices and replies all pass through it. It is the only official channel for these filings — there is no separate app, and FBR does not ask for your password by phone or email.
The portal address is iris.fbr.gov.pk. Anything else asking for your IRIS credentials should be treated as a phishing attempt.
What you need before you sign in
IRIS identifies you by your registration number, not by an email address or a username you chose.
- Your CNIC, with no dashes, if you are an individual.
- Your 7-digit NTN if you are signing in as a company, AOP or registered firm.
- Your IRIS password.
- Access to the mobile number and email address registered with FBR — codes and confirmations are sent there.
Signing in, step by step
- 01Open iris.fbr.gov.pkType the address directly rather than following a link from a message. The login form appears on the landing page.
- 02Enter your registration numberIndividuals enter the 13-digit CNIC with no dashes or spaces. Companies and AOPs enter the 7-digit NTN.
- 03Enter your passwordThis is the password set when the IRIS account was created, not your bank or e-mail password.
- 04Complete the captcha and submitEnter the characters shown and select Login. If the captcha is unreadable, refresh it rather than guessing.
- 05Land on your dashboardYour inbox of notices, draft returns and completed tasks is shown. Declaration is where you start a new return.
If you have never logged in before
You need an IRIS account before you can log in, and the account is created through registration rather than through the login page.
On the IRIS landing page choose Registration for Unregistered Person, supply your CNIC, mobile number and email address, and verify both with the codes sent to you. IRIS then issues login credentials. For an individual, completing registration is also what creates your NTN.
Forgotten password or PIN
Use Forgot Password on the login page. Enter your CNIC or NTN and the registered mobile number and email address; IRIS sends a code to each and lets you set a new password.
If the registered mobile number or email is no longer yours, the reset cannot complete online. The change has to be made through your Regional Tax Office, with your CNIC, or through FBR's helpline.
Common problems
- Invalid credentials: check you are entering the CNIC with no dashes, and that you are not using an NTN where a CNIC is expected.
- Account locked after repeated attempts: wait, then use the password reset rather than trying again.
- The site is slow or times out near a filing deadline: load is heaviest in the final days of September. Filing earlier is the only reliable fix.
- Codes never arrive: the mobile number or email on the FBR record is out of date and must be updated through your tax office.
- Nothing appears under Declaration: the tax year has not been selected, or the return period has not opened yet.
Questions
The official portal is iris.fbr.gov.pk. FBR does not operate a separate app or alternative login site for income tax filing.
Your registration number is your username: the 13-digit CNIC with no dashes for an individual, or the 7-digit NTN for a company, AOP or registered firm.
Select Forgot Password on the IRIS login page and enter your CNIC or NTN with the mobile number and email registered with FBR. Verification codes are sent to both, after which you can set a new password.
An online reset will not complete because the verification code goes to the old number. The registered contact details have to be updated through your Regional Tax Office or FBR's helpline before you can reset the password.
An individual logs in with a CNIC. Completing IRIS registration is itself what creates the NTN, so you do not need a separate NTN first.
